Coaching a technical business such as Gordon Consulting was certainly made easier with my background in engineering.
Gordon Consulting is a Geelong based multidisciplinary engineering firm covering civil, structural, building design, town planning, energy rating, and surveying. The business was well established and known in the local area for more than 27 years and had many loyal clients and was known for high quality design work.
The original intention was to implement a succession plan for the founder of the business to the staff and family members. This took some unexpected turns, but in the process many internal systems were reviewed with some very impressive outcomes even though the business was good on almost any measure.
Improvements were made in many areas including sales, staff roles, recruiting, productivity improvements, time management, planning and reporting. The impact of this work generated very healthy improvements of sales and profits.
This is a great example of a long established and well run consulting firm that can significantly improve their bottom line through focussing on their internal systems and processes, in this case within 12 months.
